To quote Dave Filoni, these shows are tall tales. According to him, we don't have to worry about continuity (in Star Wars) because different perspectives on the same events enhance the storytelling. When it comes to Star Wars, I disagree because like most fans I have a great deal of emotion invested in these stories. When Star Wars contradicts itself, it takes the viewer out of the story.
When it comes to a somewhat corny science fiction show I watched in the 1960s, I have come to accept that Modern Trek is for a new generation. I prefer more continuity, but as long as I have a good time watching the shows, that is good enough.
